What are you asking a service to provide?
You may want a safe conversation about a life change, an assessment of recurring symptoms, help with a diagnosed condition or practical support with stress and anxiety. These needs can overlap, but they do not require exactly the same professional role.
A practitioner should explain the service they provide, their relevant training and any limits. Ask whether you are booking counselling, a clinical assessment, a specific psychological treatment or coaching. A familiar search term is not evidence that a provider is qualified for every one of those activities.
Counselling and psychotherapy
Talking therapies involve working with a trained professional on thoughts, feelings, behaviour or difficulties in life. Counselling may provide space to explore experiences and concerns; different psychotherapy approaches have different aims and methods. The names alone do not tell you how an appointment will work.
Ask about the approach, experience with your concern, confidentiality, costs and how progress is discussed. General supportive counselling should not automatically be presented as a disorder-specific intervention for panic disorder, OCD or PTSD. If specialist care is needed, look for relevant competence.
Psychological therapies and clinical assessment
The NHS describes CBT among psychological treatments used for a range of anxiety and related conditions. PTSD may involve trauma-focused therapy, while OCD requires attention to obsessions and compulsions. Clinical recommendations depend on assessment rather than a webpage selecting a treatment for you.
If you specifically need a psychologist, check the practitioner's relevant qualifications and registration for their work and location. Confirm whether they offer the assessment or treatment you require and in which language. Medicines and medical diagnosis belong with appropriately qualified healthcare professionals, not a general coaching enquiry.
TRT is a distinct offer, not a new name for every therapy
Threat Recalibration Therapy uses the Human Stability Framework and guided practical work as a stress and anxiety recovery approach. It is not advertised here as CBT, EMDR, clinical psychology or every form of counselling. We do not claim that it is better for everyone or that it replaces a clinician's care plan.
Our team are qualified TRT Therapists and Psycho-educators accredited by the IOAP.
Read the individual profiles for their backgrounds. IOAP accreditation should not be interpreted as proof that every team member is a registered clinical psychologist or holds an unconfirmed counselling accreditation. If your enquiry needs a particular professional credential, ask about it directly.
Choosing support in English from Valencia to Alicante
Services here are currently offered in English. Residents and members of the public can enquire whether or not they are expats or athletes. Explain what you want help with, your preferred format and any existing professional support; you do not need to buy a programme first.
One-to-one sessions can be arranged via Zoom, FaceTime, or in person at Oliva Nova or nearby. Online enquiries from Valencia, Alicante and the coast do not mean there is a local clinic in each town. Confirm availability, costs and an actual meeting location before arranging travel.
Questions worth asking before you agree
What training and registration support the service? Have you worked with this concern? What approach will we use, and what does a session involve? What are the fees and cancellation arrangements? How will we review progress or decide if another service is needed?
If you already receive treatment, ask how any additional support fits alongside it. Do not stop medication or a treatment plan because of marketing language. For an immediate emergency in Spain, call 112 rather than waiting for a reply to an enquiry.
Questions, answered
A little more clarity.
Are counselling, psychology and TRT interchangeable?
No. They can describe different services, approaches and professional roles. Ask what is actually offered and which qualifications support it.
Does TRT advertise a registered clinical psychologist here?
This guide does not make that claim. The confirmed team description is qualified TRT Therapists and Psycho-educators accredited by IOAP; individual backgrounds are on the team page.
Can I enquire about anxiety without choosing a programme?
Yes. Start with a brief enquiry about your concern and preferred format. Suitability, availability and costs are discussed before sessions are agreed.
