Understanding anxiety and related concerns

PTSD and trauma-related anxiety: choosing support in Spain

After a frightening or traumatic experience, recurring memories, disrupted sleep or feeling constantly alert can be difficult to live with. PTSD and complex PTSD need careful professional consideration; they are not simply everyday stress or sporting nerves.

Trauma-related symptoms are not a self-diagnosis

PTSD may involve intrusive memories or nightmares, avoiding reminders, changes in mood or beliefs and a persistent sense of danger. Symptoms can emerge after an event or later. People respond differently to distressing experiences, so not every response is PTSD.

Complex PTSD is another trauma-related clinical concern, not a label this guide can assign. A qualified professional should consider the symptoms, history, safety and support needs without requiring you to disclose a detailed account on a public contact form.

Finding continuity while living on the coast

If you have moved to Spain or spend part of the year here, explain any existing trauma care and how appointments or follow-up can continue. A comfortable location or a new routine does not automatically resolve trauma-related difficulties.

For a first enquiry, you can simply say that you have trauma-related concerns and whether you already work with a clinician. Ask about the practitioner's scope and experience before agreeing a session. We do not provide an emergency or specialist trauma-assessment service.

Clinical trauma therapies and other support

The NHS describes trauma-focused CBT, eye-movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), and medicines where appropriate among PTSD treatment options. These require suitable professional assessment and training. A general counselling conversation is not automatically a trauma-focused treatment.

This site does not claim to deliver EMDR or specialist trauma therapy. TRT can be discussed as a different form of stress and anxiety support only where suitable; it must not be presented as a reason to discontinue clinical care or as a guaranteed trauma recovery method.

Discussing TRT support in English

TRT is a separate stress and anxiety recovery approach using the Human Stability Framework, guided materials and practical work in everyday life. An enquiry can establish what you want to work on and whether this form of support may fit. It is not a diagnostic appointment or a promise to treat every condition described in this guide.

One-to-one sessions can be arranged via Zoom, FaceTime, or in person at Oliva Nova or nearby. People along the Valencia–Alicante coast can enquire about online support without being athletes or members of a club. Tell us about any existing care so that a different approach is not mistaken for a replacement. Do not stop prescribed treatment on the basis of this page.

Questions, answered

A little more clarity.

Is PTSD simply another name for anxiety?

No. PTSD is a trauma-related condition with its own diagnostic category, although anxiety may be part of the experience. Professional assessment matters.

Does TRT offer EMDR through this website?

We do not advertise EMDR or specialist trauma assessment here. Ask a suitably qualified trauma clinician about those services.

Should I send my trauma history before enquiring?

No. Keep the first enquiry brief. You can mention trauma-related concerns and current care without sending detailed private records.
