What people mean by sports psychology
Sport and exercise psychology applies psychological knowledge within sport and exercise contexts. Work can involve athletes, coaches and people taking part in exercise, with goals that are broader than winning an event. What a practitioner can assess or treat depends on their qualifications and scope.
Mental-performance support, wellbeing work and clinical treatment are not automatically the same service. Ask a prospective sports psychologist about their professional credentials and whether the work you need falls within their practice, particularly if a diagnosed condition or significant distress is involved.
Performance nerves or anxiety beyond the event?
Preparing for a competition, coping with mistakes or managing attention may be the focus of performance work. Persistent worry, panic attacks, health anxiety or compulsive checking can affect an athlete outside training too. Playing sport does not prove that sport caused the anxiety.
Describe when the difficulty appears: only around an event, throughout the week or in unrelated situations. That distinction is useful for choosing support. It is not a diagnosis, and ordinary anticipation should not automatically be described as an anxiety disorder.
Searching in Valencia, Alicante or near Oliva Nova
If you specifically need a sports psychologist in Valencia or Alicante, check relevant qualifications, professional registration, language and the scope of the appointment. We do not advertise a psychology clinic in either city or imply that our TRT credentials are sports-psychology registration.
If stress and anxiety recovery is the goal, you can enquire about TRT online or about an in-person arrangement near Oliva Nova. This is a different approach to discuss, not a guaranteed performance intervention or an official resort partnership.
An athlete is also a member of the public
A player may live with social anxiety, a phobia, OCD or trauma-related difficulties without those concerns being caused by sport. Coaches and team staff may also need support for ordinary life. You do not have to turn every concern into a competition problem to ask a question.
People who do not take part in sport are welcome too. Our public section explains English-speaking support for residents and expats along the coast, while the existing athlete and sport-camp pages remain focused on those audiences.
Where TRT fits—and where another professional may be needed
TRT uses the Human Stability Framework with guided materials and practical stress and anxiety recovery work. It does not promise better scores, selection, physical rehabilitation or a fixed recovery timetable. Suitability is discussed individually and existing care should be taken into account.
A need for diagnosis, specialist psychological treatment or medication advice should be taken to an appropriately qualified clinician. This guide does not establish equivalence between TRT and sports psychology or prove superiority over another approach.
Making a useful first enquiry
Tell us whether you are enquiring for yourself, a club or a team, what stress or anxiety affects and whether online sessions or an Oliva-area arrangement would be preferred. A brief account is enough; do not send medical records or another person's private history.
Ask who is available, what the approach involves, costs and any safeguards needed. The enquiry is not a purchase or clinical assessment. There is no promise that a particular practitioner, appointment location or session time will be available.
Questions, answered
A little more clarity.
Does this page mean TRT practitioners are sports psychologists?
No. It explains the difference between sports psychology and our TRT stress and anxiety recovery offer. We do not claim unconfirmed psychology registration.
Can an athlete ask about anxiety unrelated to sport?
Yes. Playing sport does not mean anxiety is caused by sport. Everyday worry, panic or other concerns can be discussed in an enquiry.
Do you guarantee better sporting performance?
No. TRT support is recovery-focused and does not promise a score, time, selection outcome or performance improvement.
